The dates that matter: coverage start dates, the November 15 to December 15 window, January 1 rate changes and ICHRA notice deadlines.
Coverage starts on the first of a month
- Apply a few weeks ahead so the carrier can confirm your group.
November 15 – December 15
- Carriers can’t turn your group down for low enrollment or a small contribution. Coverage starts January 1.
January 1
- Individual-market rates change, which affects ICHRA allowances.
- Many group plans renew on this date too.
90 days before an ICHRA starts
- Employees must get written notice by then, so for a January 1 start, decide by early October.
